All systems are go for the trip!!!
72 hours until we make the 3000 mile, 5 hour, red-eye flight to our nation's capital!!!!
When we arrive at 7 AM we hit the ground running, or slowly waking, eat for fuel, and then begin exploring! It's a full day of Smithsonian Museums, "photo ops", and a night tour of memorials, headlined by the Lincoln Memorial, which is incredibly powerful and beautiful in the evening.
I am tempted as a history teacher to set up class on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, analyze the words of Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream" speech, and have each student present their section right then and there. I know myself, and Ms. Arredondo can't help as history enthusiasts and nerds, being overwhelmingly excited about our surroundings and the history that happened and continues to happen in this place.
We will curb our enthusiasm only slightly in order to ensure that the students do not spend the entirety of the trip studying history. No, we are cooler than that. We have a great balance of learning and fun planned, and in my mind the two are eternally linked anyways, students just don't know it yet.
We are very excited for the trip!!! Pray for good weather, positive attitudes, extra walking strength, and an overall great experience for everyone on the trip.
